Andrew Thompson Videos Pics Shows Press Armed with a DMX drum machine, a kazoo, a Wurlitzer, some junky synthesizers, tubas, trombones, a robot, and a broke-ass piano, Mr. Thompson sings tales of the absurd and the everyday. Oh yeah - and the boy can sing.
The Brooklyn resident has a background in Jazz vocals and corporate entertainment. In fact he won the Jazz Vocal M.V.P. award at Boston's prestigious Berklee School of Music and went on to sing in high-class restaurants, stuffy hotels and big name corporate functions. Now flying solo, Andrew's new single 'We're in Business' (released November 6th) is set to be this year's most thrillingly unusual, genre-defying pop song, about one man's love-hate relationship with a robot companion. He seamlessly mixes a diverse palette of influences that include ELO, De La Soul and the legendary Muppet Show pit band - Electric Mayhem - into material that is familiar, yet impossible to pin down. Fresh from supporting Clap Your Hands Say Yeah in the U.S., Andrew is currently recording his debut album scheduled for release in late 2007. PRESS: 'NYCs most eccentric soul boy unleashes this ridiculous, but oh so catchy, kazoo-led tune about finding strange objects in his bowl of soup. Weird, but irresistible.' - Dazed and Confused Magazine 'This is the years cutest and catchiest song, sung by a Brooklyn jazz singer guy, thatll make you laugh and get stuck in your brain for months (10 out 10 stars).' - Vice Magazine 'Edans label with a late contender for pop single of the year. Dont question me or yourself. Just get it and hear it and love it til Xmas (4 out of 5 stars).' - DJ Magazine 'This tune is hilarious, the perfect kind of acceptable novelty tune. B-side 'Idiot' offers more of the same. Verdict: real originality. No misunderstanding. (4 out of 5 stars).' - Blues and Soul Magazine 'A bouncing tuba, someone whistling and an old style crooning vocal from New Yorker Thompson leads this strange tale of finding a fly in your soup. (4 out 5 stars).' - Metro UK 'A hard-hitting consumer rights anthem, here Brooklyns hirsute Mr. Thompson uses some of that Edan money to bring light to the plight of finding bugs in among your hard earned soup over the type of groove UB40 in their prime would have been proud to see their name next to.' - Hip Hop Connection For more info please contact 020 7713 0926 or info@LewisRecordings.com Visit Andrews website at http://www.golfandracquetclub.com Visit Andrews MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/whatsuprobot |
